Rossi joins Villareal

Former United player and Parma star Giuseppe Rossi has been transferred to Villarreal FC for a reported £6.7million transfer fee. Guiseppe Rossi

The lack of First team action, combined with 3(possibly 4) new signings have prompted Rossi to move away from United. Sir Alex tried to persuade Rossi to stay at United for and promised him regular starts at the club, but Rossi must have seen a brighter future for him away from the club.

Sir Alex said, “He wanted to go for a first team football. We have clause in his contract where he can come back to the club at some point.”

Rossi was moved on loan to Newcastle United last season on loan, but was unable to get regular starts at St James’. He then moved to Parma where he almost single-handedly saved them from relegation.Villarreal have sold their top striker and ex-United player, Diego Forlan to Athletico Madrid for a reported 14 million transfer fee, so bringing Rossi to their team seems like a pretty good bargain for them.

Rossi was hailed as the “Future of the Club” when he was signed by the SAF. His contract lasted till 2010, but it seems like that was not to be.
